Pull the plug: There's a steady drumbeat of efforts to propagandize your kids and mine into accepting homosexuality and other sexual sin as normal, trendy, cool, and just plain awesome. Pixar, owned by one of the 6 companies that controls virtually all mainstream media, has announced a casting call for a girl who can "accurately portray a 14-year-old transgender girl." Here's what you need to remember about Disney and the other 5 companies that shovel entertainment content to our kids: they hate God, they hate your values, they hate the Bible, they hate the morality and laws that make human life flourish, and they will use any avenue they have to keep pounding their destructive messages into the impressionable young skulls of our children.

Get rid of Netflix. Cancel Disney+, if you were brainwashed enough to ever subscribe to it. Ideally, dump all the TVs in your house into the trash can. Use parental controls to rid your children's tech devices of YouTube and other destructive sources of propaganda. Stop giving people who hate God a direct line into your family's eyeballs.

Quick thoughts on the Chauvin trial:

  1. Seemed like a pretty open-and-shut case of murder.
  2. Charging and convicting murderers is a good thing.
  3. However, the sentence needs to be good as well.
  4. None of the possible sentencing outcomes (such as 12.5 years in prison for each count) can be considered good, because they all fall short of God's justice and perpetuate OTHER injustices.
  5. God's standard is for murderers to be put to death (Numbers 35). Anything less is explicitly disallowed (v.32) and pollutes the land with blood (v.33).
  6. If Chauvin is put in prison for, say, 40 years... not only is God's standard of justice not being applied, but the further injustice of spending thousands of tax dollars every month to keep a murderer clothed, fed, sheltered, and possibly "rehabilitated" is committed as well.
  7. We should not add to the victim(s) of a murder by forcing other innocent people to fund the incarceration of a convicted murderer. That's just adding injustice to injustice.

Bending the knee not to Jesus, but to tyrants: I love, love, love this op-ed over at The Epoch Times: "Clergy Who Bowed to COVID Fears Need to Face a Reckoning." Besides the biblical truism that leaders of the church will face a stricter judgment from God (James 3:1), I agree they should also face a strict judgment from their own flock:

Most disgracefully of all, at a time when people could have used spiritual solace, we closed our churches—and the clergy obeyed without objection. For this, every single prelate, priest, rabbi, bishop, or cardinal who meekly obeyed secular “authority” ought to be publicly shamed, stripped of his clerical garb, and never be allowed to attend to souls again.

I love this article, especially for its juicy historical tidbit about "Dagger John" (oh, how we need a nation full of Dagger John pastors today!) and its celebration of Pastor Artur Pawlowski for blasting Canadian gestapo out of his church on Holy Saturday.

Happy Sunday:

The Lord’s Day is a relentless, unstoppable weekly reminder of the victory and reign of the risen Lord over all competitors. Sunday chiefly means this: Jesus is Lord. (P. Andrew Sandlin)

So many dead in so little time: The New York Times is running a front-page story with the headline, "As Covid Death Toll Passes 3 Million, a Weary World Takes Stock." But the real winner is the tag line underneath:

"It just never crossed your mind that there would be so many dead in so little time," said one man in Mexico City.

My simple response to that would be the number of worldwide abortions in 2021, a mere 3.5 months into the calendar year: 11,959,000 and counting. Unlike the natural, amoral evil of deaths from a virus, that's nearly 12 million human babies intentionally murdered by mothers and doctors. That is willful, purposeful, moral evil.

Which set of deaths do you think concerns me more as a Christian, commanded to love God and love neighbor? (Matthew 22:36-40) "So many dead in so little time," indeed.

I'm ready for my close-up: What do the following three news stories have in common?

What they have in common is they all involve politicians (specifically, governors) who are viewing every action they take through the lens of what they can accomplish in 2024. Over the last 13-14 months, what we've seen is a dress rehearsal for the 2024 presidential elections. The governors of these various states are all jockeying to announce, loud and clear, what their worldview is so that they can appeal to the electorate of their choice in the next major election.

Whitmer (Michigan) has steadfastly held to a nanny-state worldview of finger-wagging, shaming, and cracking down on people who try to think for themselves. That's the kind of voter she wants to court. DeSantis (Florida) has clearly thrown in his lot with the conservative, capitalist side of things. And Polis (Colorado) has spent the entire pandemic threading the needle of trying not to piss off too many conservatives, while also trying to appeal to the safe-ist liberals, and hanging around the middle as much as possible. In this dress rehearsal, there's at least a dozen governors who all want to position themselves to either run for president, or to be somebody's top pick for VP.

If you find yourself questioning what's happening in some state or other, or wondering why your governor does or doesn't do certain things, just remind yourself: 2024 is right around the corner, in a blink of the eye as far as American politics goes.

Cesspool: Andrew Sandlin just put up a really helpful post about escapism, its impact on the modern church, and in turn the downward spiral of the once God-fearing American culture:

Escapist theology has turned massive sectors of conservative Christianity into world-fleeing saints and, in turn, our culture into a God-defying cesspool.

Definitely take a few minutes to read through the whole thing and ask yourself: am I, as a Christian, escapist and unbiblical in how I approach these things? Is my church? Do I read my Bible this way, and do I teach it to my family and my kids this way?

VIPs only: That is, Vaccine-Injected Persons. That's the new VIP. As the island of St. Vincent was partially evacuated because of a volcanic eruption, the island's government announced rescue was on the way: evacuation by cruise ship. But only for those who were already vaccinated. That is, VIPs only.

Put it into perspective with some numbers: population of over 110,000 people. 10 coronavirus deaths in the last year. 16,000 people being evacuated from a volcano. The vast, vast majority of them (probably 15,000 or so) wouldn't qualify to evacuate. A virus that has apparently killed a mere 10 people is being used as the basis to put some 15,000 people into harm's way. Lava and flames are virtually certain to kill people, whereas it's obvious the coronavirus largely does not.

This is not about reason, logic, or science. It's about elites maintaining control. Compassion and humanitarian relief be damned.

God's way on the earth: This world is not a throw-away. God originally created it and called it "good." It has fallen because of mankind's sin, but God is not planning to scrap the whole planet. As Psalm 67 says, He wants His way to be known on the earth. That means His way of thinking, His plan for how we live, and His laws to maintain those boundaries. Are we, as individual Christians and as leaders in our various roles in life, making His way known among the earth? Are we making His salvation visible among all nations, including our own?

God be gracious to us and bless us,
And cause His face to shine upon us -- Selah.
That Your way may be known on the earth,
Your salvation among all nations...
God blesses us,
That all the ends of the earth may fear Him.
(Psalm 67:1-2,7 LSB)

"Your papers, sports fan!" The NFL is a bunch of appallingly woke God-haters, but Major League Baseball doesn't want to miss its own chance to alienate rational, free-thinking people. Citi Field, the ballpark for the New York Mets, requires guests to bring proof of vaccination, negative PCR test, or negative antigen test to be allowed to enter the park.

Christian: after 2020 and the first bits of 2021, have you gotten the message yet? Are you ready to kill your idol of professional sports? What will it take for you to stop giving your money and the attention of your eyeballs to the people who hate your God, hate your freedom, and hate the possibility of you using your own brain to assess risk?

Umm, can you just stick to medicine, please? A hospital in Boston has decided to pilot a program for "offering preferential care based on race." The developers of the plan, from Harvard Medical School, implicitly take a swipe at "our colorblind system of law" which may produce legal challenges to this blatantly racist approach by the hospital. I guess "first, do no harm" has been replaced by "first, be woke."

I honestly don't want to go to any hospital that evaluates race to decide whether or not to "distribute medical resources" to me when my life is on the line.

Well, that didn't age well. This March 2020 article from Time is super inconvenient for all the mask-huggers today who insist they are "following the science." Two favorite bits:

“It seems kind of intuitively obvious that if you put something—whether it’s a scarf or a mask—in front of your nose and mouth, that will filter out some of these viruses that are floating around out there,” says Dr. William Schaffner, professor of medicine in the division of infectious diseases at Vanderbilt University. The only problem: that’s not effective against respiratory illnesses like the flu and COVID-19. If it were, “the CDC would have recommended it years ago,” he says. “It doesn’t, because it makes science-based recommendations.”

And a February 29 tweet from the U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. Jerome Adams:

Seriously people- STOP BUYING MASKS! They are NOT effective in preventing general public from catching #Coronavirus...

Funny how the "science-based recommendations" magically changed when people in power realized it would be much more useful for the "science" to say things allowing them to control people and coerce them into submission.

CDC investments: Following on from my previous post, the CDC is apparently going to "make investments in racial and ethnic minority communities." What're the odds we'll see them make "investments" in, say, premarital counseling and abstinence education?

April 10, 2021

Social determinants of health: Today, the director of the CDC declared racism to be a "serious public health threat" because of...

... the structural barriers that impact racial and ethnic groups differently to influence where a person lives, where they work, where their children play, and where they worship and gather in community... These social determinants of health have life-long negative effects on the mental and physical health of individuals in communities of color."

Funny how the CDC doesn't declare fornication, adultery, divorce, and other factors that lead to fatherless homes to be "serious public health threats." Some 40% of school-age children in America have no biological father in the home. Over 50% of children are born outside of marriage. 85% of prisoners in America grew up in fatherless homes. Ditto for the vast majority of children with behavioral disorders, those who run away from home, and those who become homeless.

If that's not a "social determinant of health," I don't know what is. But I'm not holding my breath for the godless CDC to decry teenage sex, pornography, and casual divorce anytime soon.

Trouble from the wicked:

Wicked men hate goodness, even when they benefit by it... But our enemies do us real mischief only when they drive us from God and our duty. The true believer's trouble will be made useful; he will learn to wait for his God, and will not seek relief from the world or himself. (Matthew Henry)

Loose translation gets loose with moral evil: I'm almost universally disappointed when I check a weighty Bible verse in the New Living Translation. Case in point, Ecclesiastes 8:11:

When a crime is not punished quickly, people feel it is safe to do wrong.

Two quick thoughts:

  1. Crime is not the issue. The Hebrew word ra' (H7451) is specifically about evil and wickedness according to God's moral standards. "Crime" sounds more like judicial or political offenses according to human standards.

  2. Word choice. It's not always possible or desirable to render the same Hebrew word with the same English word everywhere it appears. But in the space of one short verse, ra' appears twice and the NLT renders it with the wildly different terms "crime" and "do wrong." The reader loses the parallel between failing to quickly punish evil and human hearts being filled up to do more evil as a result.

Don't use the NLT. Skip it altogether and keep your Bible study clean. Read primarily from a solid, formal translation like the NASB, ESV, or NKJV. Then use a good commentary if needed for clarity on context or interpreting tough verses.

Keep the ways of the Lord: Stay close to God by keeping His ordinances before you. In a word, read your Bible.

For I have kept the ways of the Lord,
And have not wickedly departed from my God.
For all His ordinances were before me,
And I did not put away His statutes from me.
(Psalm 18:21-22 NASB95)

April 4, 2021

Throne of judgment: There are a lot of people who call themselves Christians who are going to be surprised, a la Matthew 7:21-23, when they come face-to-face with Jesus someday.

But the LORD sits [as King] forever; He has established His throne for judgment.
(Psalm 9:7 NASB20)

God is not some warm and fuzzy hippie. He reigns as King of all creation, and the very throne He sits on was established for the purpose of judgment.

Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne...
(Psalm 89:14a NASB20)

April 3, 2021

Judgment is already here: Pastor John MacArthur gave an excellent sermon on what happens to nations when they continually and unashamedly reject God as King. He makes the point, which has been often and correctly made over recent months, that America is not simply at risk for incurring God's judgment and wrath. God's judgment is already upon us. Romans 1:18-32 lays out the wrath of God, which includes handing over a people to foolish thinking, sexual impurity, homosexuality, and all kinds of wicked social behavior. The last handful of decades, and especally the rise of Joe Biden and the other members of the Woke Priesthood, are not risking God's judgment. They are God's judgment.

God is a righteous judge,
a God who displays his wrath every day.
(Psalm 7:11 NIV)
