"Serve everyone." Leftists are slamming Hyatt for "hosting Nazis" as the host venue for CPAC. Attorney Jenna Ellis rightly pointed out that the left constantly screams at faith-based businesses to "serve everyone." Here's a business that, apparently, is doing that. And the left hates it. It seems to me their philosophy would be: serve everyone, but only the "everyone" that we give our stamp of approval to.

Insanity round-up: In the 11 days since I last blogged... the CDC ordered fishermen to wear masks even while sleeping; the Los Angeles school board has replaced police officers with "climate coaches" and "restorative justice advisers"; Coca-Cola got caught training employees how to be "less white"; and a judge in California allowed a homosexual "throuple" to be listed as the legal parents of two children. Oh, and the icing on the cake this week: Represenative Jerry Nadler explicitly said that "God’s will is no concern of this Congress." Not that we needed verbal confirmation of the government's rebellion against God, but it is nice to hear them admit it and be truthful for once.

Lord of Sundays only? "The kind of radical, solitary worship that Scripture represents has been transformed into a weekly feel-good experience rather than a life-orienting mandate...Sadly, many who sat in the pews of churches in 2019... now feel like they are doing God a favor by giving an hour on Sunday to a web-meeting." Another one bites the (Woke) dust: Max Lucado is the latest to cave to the Woke onslaught. Invited to preach at the Washington National Cathedral, he spoke on a topic unrelated to LGBT issues -- but was the target of massive anger regarding his previously-expressed stance on what the Bible says about homosexuality. He has sinced issued a standard, forced denunciation of himself, complete with boilerplate "I should have done better" verbiage. In his apology, he stated:

Faithful people may disagree about what the Bible says about homosexuality...

This is true. They may disagree. But just because humans are fallible and easily deluded on what they agree about does not detract from the fact that the Bible says very definite things about homosexuality. None of them are positive, and none of them allow for a true believer in Christ to remain in any sexually immoral mode of living. While "faithful people" may disagree, that just means that some will be right and some will be wrong. Lucado is wrong to apologize for previously (but perhaps no longer?) holding to the Bible's clear statements on homosexuality. Like many popular preachers and pastors today, he stands not on the firm ground of the Bible, but increasingly on the shifting sands of whatever the culture says is acceptable or not.

Resist:

Darius was putting himself in the place of God by deciding whether and how worship should happen. The modern state is putting itself in the place of God by deciding whether and how worship should happen. It is the duty of God’s people to correct this by resisting. ("Not Enough Faith to Worship")

Winter weeding:

If you are a pastor, a father, a mother—whatever you are responsible for—who won't discipline, rebuke, correct, and exhort, you are like the gardener who won't pull weeds or cut back new growth for the sake of long-haul fruitfulness. (Brian Suavé)

"Your papers!" Denmark, Sweden, Israel, Spain, Italy, Cyprus, Malta, Britain, and America. Just a sampling of the countries who either have implemented, or are planning to implement, immunity IDs. In Israel, you need a "green pass" to go shopping. Nobody's bothered by how much these things mirror Communist China's "health code" system that keeps you from walking out of your own neighborhood, much less entering a bank or a subway station. "No jab, no job" policies are already in the works in so-called "free" Western countries as well. Folks like you and me, who will choose not to inject ourselves and our loved ones with virtually untested, experimental genetic vaccines... well, we won't be flying anywhere, and maybe we won't be allowed to shop, either. We may not even be allowed to keep our jobs.

"Snap lockdowns," coming to a democracy near you: This will probably be a part of the glorious "new normal" to be imposed on us for the foreseeable future. Victoria, Australia, has gone into a five day "snap lockdown" over a virus outbreak. Just in time to cripple the livelihood of people who rely on Valentine's Day business to help salvage the wreckage of their financial lives from 2020's senseless stay-at-home lunacy.

No pagans allowed? Headline over at Disrn: "Gab CEO will decline all 'pagan' media interviews, will only grant requests from Christian journalists." While mildly amusing at first glance, this is not a great stance to take. We as Christians are called to witness to the pagan world, not to hide from it. Also, I'd contend that most "Christian" media outlets are questionably Christian at best. The worst examples (like The Gospel Coalition) have trended toward downright heretical in recent years. I like the idea of asking journalists if they trust Jesus as Lord and Savior -- but rather than sending this as a snarky one-off question in response to interview requests, it might be better to accept the interview on the terms that you can have a frank and meaningful discussion about whether the interviewer is truly saved or not. The interviewer might decline those terms, but at least that would move in the right direction of trying to actively win souls for Christ.

Constellations of Bible hope:

How broughtly shine His promises! In the day of our prosperity we cannot see the brilliancy of these. Like the sun at noon, hiding out the stars from sight, they are indiscernible; but when night overtakes, the deep, dark night of sorrow, out come these clustering stars -- blessed constellations of BIble hope and promise of consolation. (Dr. Macduff)

China, Australia... Same thing: The Upper House of parliament in Victoria, Australia, has passed legislation that makes it illegal to pray. That is, it's illegal to pray regarding someone's sexual orientation, even if they've specifically requested it. We're pretty much living in the book of Daniel now, with Australia eagerly trying to be like King Darius (or China). Are you ready? Do you have the spine to live not according to lies, and to defy tyrants? They're coming to a legal jurisdiction near you.

The Cultural Revolution continues: Chase Bank has apparently cut off a coffee company from payment services, and they just happen to be a pro-Trump company. Combine this with America's eagerness to copy China's horrendous "social credit score" system, and it's not hard to imagine that people like myself will soon be banned from even having a bank account or booking a hotel because we're not woke enough.

de Gaulle would be galled: I shouldn't be surprised by things like this anymore, but there's a column over at the Los Angeles Times that quite literally compares "the Trumpites next door," who generously plowed the snow out of the author's driveway, to the "polite" Nazis in 1940s occupied France. "I’m not ready to knock on the door with a covered dish yet... But I can offer a standing invitation to make amends."

I can see next week's column taking shape already: "A Republican held open the door for me at the supermarket. Should I walk through it, or fumble around and spill my groceries on the ground so I don't fraternize with Nazis?"

Muddy waters: At my church, we're beginning an in-depth, weekly study of 1 Peter. I've read through it many times over the years, but today I went through and started reading it from scratch again. I'm struck by the intricate, sometimes grammatically-dense structure of Peter's writing. Parallel to that, I wince knowing that the text preached from the pulpit will be the New Living Translation, which is already too loose for most of the Bible. As I compare the NLT's rendering to the ESV, NKJV, NASB, etc. I am once again blown away by how much the NLT muddies the waters in the name of "the truth made clear." The truth actually becomes less clear in the NLT, and in the case of 1 Peter, some of the most rich, vivid, and beautiful descriptions of God, Jesus, and Christian faith become flat and almost childish caricatures. Lord help us to hear the richness of Your voice and Your revelation through this muddy, paraphrased mess.

Stupor Bowl: I don't really follow professional football or care too much about any of the teams, but I usually join in the national spectacle of the Super Bowl since it can be a lot of fun. This year is the first time in the last 10 years that I'm not watching. In the past, I could set aside the lewd pagan halftime show and just enjoy the sport itself. But after 2020, I don't even want the slightest association with the NFL. They kowtow to the anti-God, anti-Gospel racism and abuse of Black Lives Matter. And then they invite a pro-abortion "poet" to this year's game. The NFL is complicit in the God-hating lies of our culture, and I want nothing to do with them. I'll find a better excuse to eat wings and nachos in front of the TV.

Poultry Lives Matter: "We must guard our moral compasses. And some day, I think, future generations will look back at our mistreatment of livestock and poultry with pain and bafflement." There's the New York Times for you, with a typical lack of self-awareness about how upside down their own moral compass is. Future generations will look back on us with "pain and bafflement" for how we treat Costco chickens... But not a peep (or a cluck?) about the pain and bafflement of American women murdering over 2,000 of their own human babies every single day in this country.

This ain't NASCAR: God's Word is like guardrails when you drive on a twisting road in the mountains. You don't blindly bang into them and scrape up your paint job, sparks flying all the while, to keep yourself on course — you mindfully keep them in your vision and steer to follow the road safely. You could crash straight through them and drive off a cliff. They won't stop you if you are determined enough. So it is with God's Word: constantly keep your eyes on it, and steer accordingly. And don't presume on God's grace by blatantly crashing through His precepts so that you wreck yourself.

No, I will not "celebrate" Kamala Harris: There is an increasing pressure for us to "celebrate" the election of Kamala Harris based on the color of her skin, her ethnic background, and/or the fact that she is a female in power. Leaving aside that obvious sexism and racism, there's the matter of her character. I cannot and will not celebrate any person who actively promotes evil (sexual immorality and abortion) and actively fights against the good. No friend of Planned Parenthood will be a role model for any daughter of mine.

Well, I'm never flying (or canoeing?) again: Pointless federal mask requirements were only the beginning, as you'd expect. "Several airlines will soon be rolling out new surveillance technology that identifies people who are not complying with face-mask requirements" (per Forbes). Add in the fact that, apparently, the incredibly vague and broad CDC order on masks would now apply to such ludicrous scenarios as renting a canoe and going out on a lake by yourself.

Truth or falsehood: "It will not be the same for everybody at first. Some will lose their jobs. But there are no loopholes… Either truth or falsehood: towards spiritual independence or towards spiritual servitude. If we are too frightened, then we should stop complaining that we are being suffocated. We are doing this to ourselves…" (Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn)

Lies (2/2):

February 3, 2021

Lies (1/1): Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn famously penned the essay, "Live Not By Lies." Without planning to, I've recently ended up reading both The Lie by Ken Ham, and Revolt Against Maturity by R.J. Rushdoony. Whether it's evolution, the nature of mankind, or Costco harassing your 5 year old about wearing an idiotic face mask, there's a common theme today: we are increasingly living in a culture of lies.

Well, there's a nutritious breakfast: Waiting for my son to go inside the school building, I saw a parent drop off his elementary school kid... with a giant, sugary Starbucks drink in her hand. I guess it's not just the media that fills our kids up with empty nonsense.

Celebrating wickedness: "... our culture has reached the bottom of the diabolical spiral described in Romans 1:21-32. People not only commit and heartily approve gross evil; they demand everyone's participation in the public celebration of wickedness." (John MacArthur, letter to supporters on January 19, 2021)

As Dr. James White said recently, America isn't risking judgment because of our wicked leaders. Our wicked leaders are the judgment upon us (see Romans 1:24 and following).

Christianity Lite: I'm really fed up with navel-gazing, therapeutic "Christianity." Yes, God is your rock, your fortress, and your deliverer. Yes, the Lord can renew your strength. Amen to all of that — the Bible says it, and it's true. But don't stop there. You must know (and proclaim!) that God is a consuming fire. He is storing up wrath to pour out on the nations. He's going to burn you up for your sins unless you are found in Christ Jesus.

Deplatformed: New vending machine in China uses facial recognition to identify you and charge you for your purchase. The inevitable pattern is this novelty will move into the essentials of daily life. You think being "deplatformed" from Facebook is a pain? Wait until your Christian witness gets you deplatformed from your bank account, your workplace, and your ability to feed your family.
